🥧 Slow Cooker Cottage Pie



A Rich, Hearty & Effortless Family Comfort Meal


This Slow Cooker Cottage Pie delivers tender, slow-cooked minced beef in a rich gravy, topped with creamy mashed potatoes and finished with a golden, cheesy crust. The perfect hands-off dinner for busy days.


🛒 Ingredients


For the Meat Filling


* 500 g lean ground beef

* 1 onion, diced

* 2 carrots, diced

* 2 garlic cloves, minced

* 2 tbsp tomato paste

* 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

* 1 cup beef stock

* 1 tsp thyme

* Salt & black pepper

* 1 tbsp olive oil


For the Mashed Potato Topping


* 800 g potatoes, peeled and cubed

* 2 tbsp butter

* ½ cup warm milk

* ½ cup grated cheddar cheese

* Salt & pepper


👨‍🍳 Instructions


1. Brown the beef with olive oil, onion, garlic, and carrots.

2. Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and beef stock.

3. Transfer to the slow cooker and cook on Low for 6–8 hours or High for 3–4 hours.

4. Meanwhile, boil the potatoes until tender, then mash with butter, warm milk, salt, and pepper.

5. Spread the mashed potatoes over the cooked beef mixture and sprinkle with cheddar cheese.

6. Place under a hot grill (broiler) for 5–8 minutes until the top is golden and lightly crisp.


👨‍🍳 Chef’s Tip


For an even richer flavor, add a handful of frozen peas during the last 30 minutes of cooking and finish the mash with a little Parmesan for an irresistible golden crust.
